The king of the tablet market is most definitely the ipad by apple.

It has the best specs and the best app selection of all the current available tablets.

But it has a starting price of $499, which is the cost of a normal budget laptop.

Can a tablet replace a laptop?

Definitely not at the moment. Tablets are still weaker than netbooks, but still more powerful than smartphones. Wait a  couple  years maybe.

So what cheaper tablet can I afford if I want one?

The recent craze is with the amazon kindle fire which is marketed as a $200 dollar tablet loaded with android, which offers a marketplace of apps that rivals apples. This is certainly a go to choice for most consumers but a better choice would be the Barnes and noble nook which is not marketed as an android tablet, but as an ebook reader with an original listing price of $250. However, this tablet is built with android, and following easy tutorials, you can convert it into an android tablet. What’s more, its been around for so long, that the nowadays selling price of the nook is $150 or less, making it a better alternative to the kindle fire as an affordable tablet with similar specs.
